Welcome to the HES web pages for Bishop's Castle and Clun. HES started in Bishop's Castle. Over the last five years we have provided household energy surveys and advice to over one fifth of the households in Bishop's Castle and adjoining parishes. We are keen to reach at least as many households again so that it becomes the norm for people to make use of our service.
We serve an area ten miles around Bishop's Castle and Clun, but do not include anywhere within five miles of Church Stretton where our colleagues at Stretton Climate Care http://www.strettonclimatecare.org.uk/ will be pleased to help you.
At one point we had a team of 15 volunteers to do the initial home visits, but unfortunately some have had to leave us. So now we are looking for people to join us - it's interesting and rewarding work - please ‘phone for a chat to find out what's involved.
Following conferences on fuel disadvantage, which the Community Council of Shropshire held in late November/ early December 2010, we are looking to build effective working relationships with others to help people who have hard to heat/expensive to heat homes and who have trouble affording to pay fuel bills. Some of you may have attended a fuel disadvantage training session we held, together with Neighbourhood Energy Action http://www.nea.org.uk/ and the Community Council of Shropshire (CCS) at Church Barn in February. I'll be keeping you informed of our progress.
